FAQs
Where do classes take place? ⟶
All classes currently take place either in person are various local studios in SS/WR, online via Zoom or seasonally, oudoors. Outdoor class locations will vary but will be held in the South Surrey / White Rock / North Delta areas.
The Motherhood Project accepts bookings. If you have an idea for collaboration, would like to book us for a private event/workshop, or would like to host a class series at your location, please inquire within.
What should I wear/bring to class? ⟶
For all classes: Dress comfortably, wear appropriate athletic footwear and invest in a well-fitting sports bra! Definitely bring water!
Mom and Baby: Online classes are obviously very flexible while in the comfort of your own home! For indoor/outdoor classes, bring your diaper bag with all your usual supplies, small toys to entertain baby if needed and possibly a blanket to lay baby on. If you have a Sit Seat, Snuggle Me, DockATot, etc, that your baby loves, feel free to bring that too! Strollers are also a great place for babies and toddlers to be 🙂
Is it safe to exercise in pregnancy? ⟶
Yes! and ABSOLUTELY! “Prenatal physical activity should be considered a frontline therapy for reducing the risk of pregnancy complications and enhancing maternal physical and mental health.” – 2019 Canadian Guideline for Physical Activity Throughout Pregnancy
At what point in pregnancy should I start exercising or doing yoga? ⟶
Honestly, the sooner the better! You are welcome to start in your first trimester if you are feeling well and we recommend it! Starting early allows you to enjoy an active, healthy, informed pregnancy and all the benefits that come from that.
Why should I exercise/practice yoga during pregnancy? ⟶
“Physical activity is now seen as a critical part of a healthy pregnancy. Following the guideline can reduce the risk of pregnancy-related illnesses such as depression by at least 25%, and the risk of developing gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and preeclampsia by 40%.” – 2019 Canadian Guideline for Physical Activity Throughout Pregnancy
There truly is a long list of benefits! In addition to the physical and emotional, you will also be introduced to a community that will support you long after pregnancy. It’s a win all around.
How soon can I start to exercise/practice yoga after giving birth? ⟶
For both vaginal and cesarean births, we recommend waiting for the cessation of lochia, we recommend you have an established feeding routine in place for baby, we recommend clearance from your Health Care Practitioner, and we highly recommend that you have an assessment with a pelvic floor physiotherapist.
Need help finding a pelvic floor physiotherapist? Check out our network of allied professionals. We know people!
What if my baby cries / needs to be changed / needs to eat / needs to be held during class? ⟶
Babies have needs and all our classes are supportive of this! Some days may go smoother than others but please know you are welcome to tend to your baby in any way, during any point of class.
Is there paperwork I need to fill out? ⟶
Yes and no. We are paper free! However, upon registration you will receive a welcome email that includes a link to our online intake form.
I’m new to exercise. Can I still come to class? ⟶
Yes. During pregnancy, NOT exercising actually increases risks. If you are healthy and your pregnancy is uncomplicated, we can help you safely participate. Postnatally, our classes are for all levels and are inclusive to those dealing with abdominal separation as well. Remember, our team is made up of certified pre/postnatal fitness specialists. Your safety and well being are #1!
What if I miss a class? ⟶
No problem! Life happens, am I right? We offer one make up class per session, which can be used in any of our other classes running during the session.
Covid amended – our make-up policy is flexible at this time.
What is your refund policy? ⟶
Registered classes are non refundable and non-transferable. Exceptions to the rule? If you experience any of the below – we’ve got you covered!
- If you are attending prenatal classes and are required to stop exercise/activity at the advice of your Health Care Practitioner
- If you are attending prenatal classes and have your baby early
- If you are attending mom/baby classes with a non-mobile baby who becomes mobile mid session
Can I register if a class session has already started? ⟶
You bet. Prorate options are available.
